Casting The Evil Eye By Anusha Mishra

While glancing through the new arrivals at the library, the cover of the book simply caught my attention. The writer being Indian literally pushed me to borrrow it even without reading much about the content:) I'm glad that i did!!

It showed me a another dimension of the mordern India. A world which doesnt have any Bollywood star or a cricketer?!!!

A world which is not much discussed nor shown anywhere. Its about the witchcraft practice whose believe has taken the lives so many innocent women in India!! Sounds weird?Well it still occurs at this right minute!!

Hats off to the writer Archana Mishra, who has taken upon her self to write such detailed account. There were even moments where even her life was at stake!Thank you Archana, for not giving up half way.

Its soo unfortunate that even in 2008 where women are deemed equal to men, the rural ladies are treated no more than a slave!!!Innocent women are falsely identified as witches and thrown to suffer derogatory tortures and at times even lose one's life!!!

Victims "punishment" ranges from sexual harrasement, forced consumption of chicken blood/human urine/excreta?!!!She loses her family, money and right down to her identity!!What could be more humilliating than these?! To think the victims have still survived these horrible torture and lived to tell it. It just makes your blood boil when you realise that the police closes the case of the murdered victims?!!

I was filled with with both anger and sympathy when i was reading the documented book. Wish i could help them in someways.sigh... Hope at least the respective government or MP take up responsibility...grrrrrr.....

This book is recommened to everyone, to remind us of how lucky we are and to know that there still certain communities in the world who are so ignorant about the global change around them.

A heart-wrenching read.
